After my drum lesson yesterday i almost wanted to register myself into the Hougang Resort... cos i almost went crazy... yesterday lesson main theme was the pedal and dismantling the drumset.
First the pedal. There is 3 ways to step on the pedal. But whichever you are doing you shld be using only ankle strength and no other strength.. not the knee, not the toes, not your calf, not your thighs and not your whole body... the thing is when my instructor was doing it, it looks bloody simple.. but when I sit down and work on it i can't help but use my whole body to step on the bloody thing so tat it will snap louder... else it doesn't sound like a bass drum at all... then i also have the tendency to lift my feet off the pedal and this almost drove my instructor crazy.. he keeps on barking at me to not lift my feet... so after much practicing i manage to curb my feet from lifting off the pedal but my toes will still tend to fly off the pedal... and its also not loud at all.. cos i'm still trying to figure out how to use the ankle to achieve tat....
Then the dismantling of the drumset was okie.. cos we were not told to do it.. but just stand and watch.. so how difficult can that get right? but again i can't help but mention the "loh soh-ness" of my instructor... just a thing on screw is clock-wise to tighten and anti-clock to losen he can go on to tell a story about sending his vehicle to malaysia to service and the mechanic actually did the other way... i almost wanted to tell him "sir, i do computer hardware too.. so i tighten screws very often..." but of course i din't... i just let him continue his story...
Then majority of the class is for us to hit the drum in alternate strokes according to the "metronome". This is the part that is the worst.. i was totally off beat.. and i really mean totally off beat... the counting of my sub-division was correct but when i start to hit on the drumset its totally different story.. my gosh its really pathetic....
sighz when can i be able to co-ordinate my hands and my brains?
